Circe Jacket Redesign
2024
For a design exercise in one of my graphic design classes at Whitworth University, I did a jacket redesign for Madeline Miller’s Circe. The main illustration pulls from elements of the book’s written work as well as the original mythos on Circe through the Odyssey, mainly through colors and iconography central to both stories, such as the sun, the potion, and the hog. Miller’s physical description of Circe also directed my illustration, and the pillars and scrolling pattern take inspiration from Greek iconography. Keeping source material and inspiration in mind, I aimed to create a captivating and intriguing cover, nouveau-esque in appearance, which nods to the complexity of Circe’s character, as told by Miller, and evokes the feminine strength and power central to the book.
Made with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Not a commercially used cover; originally made for a school graphic design project. No money was or is made from the final product. All original rights belong to Little, Brown and Company. Fonts used include Amarante by Sorkin Type Co and Adobe Garamond Pro by Adobe. The included photo was taken by Nina Subin.
